BIGinDallas.com has just relaunched recently with a new look and feel, as well as new features.
Where did this site come from?
The site was created out of my passion for design, learning, and the internet. Having to move to Dallas from Los Angeles 4 years ago was probably one of the toughest thing I had to do in my life. Everything was just literally new to me - being married, getting the first house, having babies (the natural way twice - which I don’t know if I would recommend for others!) and not knowing a thing about Dallas, except that everything was suppose to be BIG! Like BIG hair, BIG houses, BIG cars, BIG oil money, BIG spenders…but anyway I didn’t see much big hair except once at the state fair.
After being here for awhile, I started to miss “home”. L.A is where I grew up and where my “other family” and friends are and the thing I miss a LOT of was asian food!! I know this may sound funny, but bigindallas.com came about because I kept searching for good asian food and also where the asian markets where. So I decided to make my own list to make sure I can find them easily. Then of course, having a house means needing services so I wanted a place where people can also recommend the companies/people they use for their needs.
My experience will obviously differ from someone who is here single sans family (guess I had to grow up), but then again everbody’s experience will be different. So the site may have more “family oriented or family friendly” feel to it. I do realize that Dallas has some great things to offer:
1. The housing prices sure beats out L.A housing prices and you do get a bigger and better house. (although I find that property tax really is a big negative)
2. The lifestyle here is a little slower pace and you can find time to relax a little.
3. Private schools for kids are at least possible since the housing price isn’t insane.
4. The weather man here are actually meteorologists.
5. Traffic isn’t as bad as L.A.
6. I’m not a big shopper, but my friend likes Dallas because of the shopping!
Where did that name come from?
The naming of “BIG in Dallas!” was from trying to find a name that the search engine would like (because I’m becoming a big seo geek) and also a catchy name with a bit of meaning to it. Obviously, the name Dallas had to be in it, and “in Dallas” was something else that would come up in searches. Then of course the name had to have “BIG D” in it! There are of course BIG companies that everyone may know about and they may be listed here, but there are also some small businesses that locals like and those small business may not be known elsewhere, but may be BIG in Dallas! It’s also a place where small unknown business can be noticed and get BIG.
Future of BIG in Dallas!
The future of the site is what you make of it. I just enjoy the creation of it and the site will continue to evolve and maybe it will also be BIG in Dallas one day - Enjoy!
